The “Fine Print”: A Word about Armor Ratings and Liability Limits.
Safe Life Defense’s soft body armor uses state of the art, cutting-edge technology to provide enhanced ballistic protection, while still remaining lightweight, comfortable, and affordable.
As any ballistics expert would confirm, those two aims are in tension. In the National Institute of Justice (NIJ)’s words, “It is absolutely essential that those who select body armor and each officer who wears it realize that there is no such thing as a bulletproof vest. The routine use of appropriate soft body armor significantly reduces the likelihood of fatal injury, but 100% protection in all circumstances is impossible. Body armor selection is to some extent a trade-off between ballistic protection and wear ability. The weight and comfort of soft body armor is inversely proportional to the level of ballistic protection that it provides.”
In other words, if your sole objective is to have the heaviest armor possible (to protect against rifles and long guns, for example), you may prefer hard armor, or even a combination of soft and hard armor. Safe Life Defense offers NIJ Level IV hard armor to be used in conjunction with your soft body armor. Always refer to your ballistic panel inserts to determine the level of your armor.
Safe Life Defense’s promise is that whatever armor you select, it will have been tested and rated to protect you, the wearer, against threats within the specified NIJ level of your vest. Each new Safe Life Defense product (i) has been or is on its way to NIJ certification; (ii) has also been tested by an independent, NIJ-certified, NVLAP-accredited body armor testing laboratory; and (iii) has also been rigorously tested in-house, in our own testing facility—all to make sure your vest lives up to its NIJ rating. The performance of our armor has been proven over and over again before our first consumer ever puts it on.
That said, as the NIJ noted above, no armor is 100% bulletproof. Like other armor providers, our attorneys require us to state the following. Safe Life Defense assumes no liability and bears no liability for any use, misuse or failure to perform. All products are sold as is and with all faults, and no warranty of fitness or use can feasibly be provided. The risk of use, quality and performance of all products remains with the consumer. Ballistic, edged and spike resistance ratings are limited to the conditions under which laboratory testing was conducted, including but not limited to barrel length, shot distance, shot placement, temperature, powder, velocity, bullet mass, bullet composition, backing material, etc. If you have any questions or comments about these notices, please let us know.
Thank you for choosing Safe Life Defense!
