What is the difference between FRAS® Rifle Plates and Level IV ICW Hard Plates?

FRAS® Rifle Plates use a proprietary Flexible Rifle Armor System with overlapping titanium plates that provide flexibility while stopping rifle threats like .223, 5.56, and 7.62×39. They weigh 3.97-5.3 lbs and are 0.73" thick. Level IV ICW Hard Plates are traditional rigid plates made of Al203 and Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene, weighing 5.8 lbs and 18mm thick. They must be used with Level IIIA armor to achieve Level IV protection against armor-piercing rounds like 30-06 steel-core.

What does 'ICW' mean for rifle plates?

ICW stands for 'In Conjunction With,' meaning these plates must be used together with soft armor (typically Level IIIA or IIIA+) to achieve their full protection rating. For example, our Level IV ICW Hard Plates must be worn with Level IIIA soft armor to stop 30-06 steel-core armor-piercing rounds. Without the soft armor backing, the protection level would be reduced.

What is a standalone plate?

A standalone plate provides its full rated protection without needing additional armor backing. Our FRAS® Level III+ Standalone Plate offers Level III+ protection against .308 and 7.62x54r threats without requiring soft armor behind it. This is different from ICW (In Conjunction With) plates that need to be combined with soft armor to achieve their maximum protection level.
