As summer gets underway, we’re proud to recognize another outstanding group of Guardian Angel recipients for June 2026. Every month, we have the privilege of hearing inspiring stories from individuals who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving others, and this month’s recipients are no exception.
Through our Guardian Angel Program, Safe Life Defense remains committed to protecting those who protect us. We are honored to provide FREE HG2 Concealable Level IIIA Multi-Threat Vests to deserving individuals who demonstrate courage, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to their communities.
Please join us in congratulating this month’s Guardian Angel recipients: Melinda Tanzini, John Drummond, and Tyler Brees!

JOHN DRUMMOND | Police Officer
One of the most important parts of protecting my family and the people I serve is making sure that I’m protected as well. Wearing body armor gives me the confidence to do my job safely because I know I have the right equipment when it matters most.
I know there are many people who deserve this opportunity just as much, if not more, than I do. But I also believe that everyone, even those of us who spend our lives protecting others, needs a helping hand from time to time.
When I first learned about this program, my initial reaction was the typical “I don’t need help” or “I’ve got this” mindset. Then my wife reminded me, “John, even though you’re a strong guy, everyone needs a little help sometimes.” That conversation really stuck with me and ultimately encouraged me to apply.
Owning body armor doesn’t make me invulnerable or invincible. It’s simply another tool in my toolbox that I can rely on if I’m ever faced with a dangerous situation. More than anything, it provides peace of mind knowing I have a better chance of making it home to my family after every shift.

MELINDA TANZINI | U.S. Marshals
I help protect members of the community, courthouse personnel, and hospital staff on every work detail I accept, always striving to serve with integrity and honor. My responsibilities include preventing criminal activity, responding to escape attempts, and ensuring the safety of those in my care. No matter the situation, I believe in treating every person I encounter with respect while serving the communities entrusted to me.
This work is more than a job to me. It is truly my passion. No matter the time of day, when I’m called to report for duty, I answer without hesitation. Although I currently serve without body armor, I continue protecting my community with only my firearm and handcuffs. Having body armor would significantly improve my ability to stay safe while protecting others.
To me, owning body armor means always being prepared to protect and serve. It would give me greater confidence while performing my duties and help ensure the safety of both myself and the people I’ve sworn to protect. Most importantly, it would give my son peace of mind knowing I have a better chance of making it home safely after every shift.

TYLER BREES | Police Officer
Body armor allows me to better protect the people I step in front of every day. Knowing I have that added protection lets me focus more on helping others instead of worrying about becoming a casualty myself.
I carry a medical kit and a firearm wherever I go because I’m committed to helping people whenever they’re in need. Even without body armor, I will continue doing the right thing and stepping in when it matters most. Being selected would provide the protection I need to serve others more effectively when they need me the most.
To me, owning body armor means worrying a little less about whether I’ll make it home to my wife after each shift. It would also help put her mind at ease, because she already worries every day when I put on my uniform and walk out the door. Service has defined my entire adult life. I served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a JTAC, in the U.S. Air Force as a flight medic, worked as an EMT on an ambulance, and now serve as a sworn police officer for my city. Helping others has always been my calling, and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
