What's the difference between the different types of armor panels?

SafeLife Defense offers several types of armor panels to meet different protection needs. HG2 Level IIIA panels provide protection against handgun threats, shotguns, strikes and slashes in a lightweight package. IIIA+ Enhanced panels add spike protection and stop special threats like Liberty Civil Defense and FN 5.7. Hyperline™ Level IIIA panels are ultra-thin (0.19") and lightweight with the same protection level. FRAS® panels offer rifle protection against .223, 5.56, and 7.62×39 in a flexible form factor that's more comfortable than traditional hard plates.

Are these panels NIJ certified?

Yes, SafeLife Defense HG2 Level IIIA panels and IIIA+ panels are NIJ Certified to the 0101.06 standard. Hyperline™ Level IIIA panels are also NIJ Certified to the same standard. While the FRAS® Rifle Armor doesn't have a specific NIJ certification category (as NIJ doesn't currently have a standard for flexible rifle armor), it is tested to meet or exceed protection levels against specific threats including .223, 5.56 Green Tip, M193, M855, SS109, and 7.62×39 lead core ammunition.

What carriers are these panels compatible with?

All SafeLife Defense panels are designed to be compatible with SafeLife Defense carriers. The full-size panels fit in the Tactical Carrier, First Response Carrier, Uniform Shirt Carrier, and Concealable Carrier. Side armor panels are designed to be used with the Tactical Side Straps. Hyperline™ panels are specifically compatible with the Hyper Concealable™ Carrier for maximum concealability. You can mix and match carriers and panels based on your specific protection needs.

How long do armor panels last?

SafeLife Defense armor panels come with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty. However, the actual functional lifespan of properly maintained armor can be longer. The NIJ recommends replacing body armor every 5-7 years depending on use and storage conditions. SafeLife Defense also offers an Incident Guarantee - if you are shot while wearing your armor, they will replace it at no cost as long as a police report is provided during the warranty period.

What is the difference between FRAS® panels and traditional rifle plates?

FRAS® (Flexible Rifle Armor System) panels provide rifle protection in a flexible format, unlike traditional rigid rifle plates. FRAS® panels are more comfortable, conform to the body, and provide approximately 5 times more coverage area than standard rifle plates. They protect against common rifle threats like .223, 5.56, and 7.62×39 while weighing less than most steel and ceramic plate sets. FRAS® technology combines overlapping titanium plates with advanced ballistic materials to defeat high-velocity projectiles while maintaining flexibility.

Can I wear these panels concealed?

Yes, many SafeLife Defense panels can be worn concealed with the appropriate carrier. The Hyperline™ Level IIIA panels are specifically designed for maximum concealability at only 0.19" thick and can be worn under a t-shirt. HG2 Level IIIA panels are also designed to be concealable at 0.30" thick. The IIIA+ panels offer good concealability for enhanced multi-threat protection. FRAS® panels, while thicker (0.73"), are still more concealable than traditional rifle plates and can be worn under looser clothing.

Are side armor panels necessary?

SafeLife Defense vests provide full side coverage by design, but side armor panels offer additional protection for those who want or need it. Side armor panels are beneficial for those facing elevated threats or wanting maximum coverage. They're available in different protection levels including HG2 Level IIIA, Hyperline™ Level IIIA for ultra-thin protection, and FRAS® for rifle-rated side protection. Side panels are used with Tactical Side Straps and can be added to any SafeLife Defense vest for enhanced protection.
