With spring finally here, it’s time to honor our Guardian Angel Recipients for March 2025!
Through our Guardian Angel Program, we remain dedicated to protecting those who protect us. This year, we’re proud to continue awarding FREE HG2 Concealable Level IIIA Multi-Threat Vests to individuals who are courageous and serve selflessly. HG2 Panels provide top-tier ballistic protection, designed to protect against common handgun and shotgun rounds, as well as strikes and slashes. These HG2 vests give our recipients the peace of mind they deserve in their critical roles.
Please help us congratulate Freddie, Christian, and Jacob!

FREDDIE GOMEZ | Corrections Officer
I will be able to help my fellow officers and public by providing a extra level of security and professionalism while wearing Armor, when on a transport to a hospital or court and knowing that if placing my body in the line of danger or having the ability to use the Armor in a improvised manner to protect civilians from danger.
I believe I should be selected to receive this Armor for the purposes of being able to do my duties as a corrections officer, armed transport officer and a member of the search and escape team to fullest of my ability and without the extra worries of not being able to complete the task at hand or to protect the civilian population from a bad situation that may arise do to the maximum security individuals that are my responsibility to maintain.
Owning body means you have accepted the responsibility to protect those around you and the responsibility of not being able to quit when things have gone bad and pushing through the situation and being able to protect those that need it.
I was informed about this program by a supervisor that suggested I look into getting better Armor than what the job provided due to the outdated and heavily used body armor that is issued to us for transports. My supervisor has stressed the issues of the department’s lack of updated Armor and wants his staff to be safe. I feel the need for the Armor is a very good thing, and it will help me make it home to my future family and loved ones.

CHRISTIAN SCHANMIER | Narcotics Detective
As a police officer with 18 years of service—and a combat veteran from my time as a U.S. Army Combat Medic—I’ve spent most of my adult life protecting and serving others. Whether it was providing medical aid under fire in Iraq or running toward danger on the streets of Texas, my mission has always been to safeguard lives, even at the risk of my own.
Wearing Safe Life Defense body armor gives me the ability to serve my community with greater confidence and security. When I’m protected, I can be more effective in protecting others—whether it’s pulling someone from harm’s way, responding to an active scene, or ensuring I make it home to my wife and five children. Having the right gear means I’m not a liability—I’m a shield for those who need me most.
I’ve served my country and community for over two decades—first as a U.S. Army Combat Medic, and now as a police officer with 18 years of experience, including time as a patrol Sergeant, criminal investigator, and narcotics detective. I work for a small agency with a very limited budget for protective equipment, which often means we end up wearing outdated or bargain-bin gear. Being selected would ensure I’m properly protected when stepping into high-risk situations—and that I can continue doing this job at a high level for years to come.
To me, owning body armor isn’t just about personal safety—it’s about peace of mind. It’s about being able to focus on the mission without second-guessing whether my gear will hold up when it matters most. It means I can confidently face danger, knowing I’m protected and that I’ll make it back home to my wife and five children. It’s also about leading by example for younger officers, showing them the importance of being properly equipped and prepared.
I’ve dedicated my life to serving others, whether it was in combat zones overseas or on the streets here at home. I love this profession and the camaraderie it brings, especially among fellow veterans and first responders. I’m finishing up my degree in Criminal Justice, constantly trying to grow and become a better leader for my team. Getting this vest would not only help protect me—it would reflect the value of those who stand in harm’s way every day without asking for much in return.

JACOB HUGO | EMT
I think the greatest asset to helping others in any First Responder field is any added piece of mind we can get. There are many uncertainties when arriving on the scene, but knowing that you’ve taken an added step toward your personal safety by wearing armor can give you a little more sense of security. With a greater sense of security comes the added ability to be of assistance to others.
I work for an EMS provider that provides sole emergency care for the entire county. This county is incredibly diverse with all the dangers, conveniences, and troubles of both rural and urban living. As of yet, my employer has not yet taken a stance on body armor as PPE. But as a recipient, I think I can help to be a voice for my fellow providers, arguing that body armor can be worn for EMS without projecting an overall “paramilitary” appearance. The argument is that this county is highly diverse, with a propensity to violence. It makes sense to provide EMS personnel body armor as at least optional PPE.
I consider owning body armor as no different than any other item of PPE. It makes as much sense as wearing a mask or gloves while on the scene. It’s not about living negatively or projecting some macho figure, but simply taking logical steps to come home safely at the end of the day to our loved ones.
As I write this, my fiancé and I are also planning our wedding. She is a brand new paramedic for a different EMS provider. She is particularly aware of the spectrum of situations we as EMS providers are placed in. She expresses to me every day that she is concerned for my safety, as I serve a particularly more risky area than she does. My hope is that wearing body armor not only gives her a little more piece of mind, but also helps persuade her to maybe even begin wearing some herself!

Was recently assaulted in the emergency department I work in, would’ve been nice to have had one of your vests on.
I provide security services at my church and I am customer of Safe life and would love to enter and wind a contest . I trust this company with my life literally.
