With the holiday season of 2025 underway, we wanted to take a moment to give thanks to the people who protect and serve their families, communities, and country. This time of year reminds us how important it is to recognize the courage and dedication of those who step forward when others cannot. We are grateful to be able to take an item off of each of the winners holiday wish lists and continue our commitment to providing mission essential equipment to those who dedicate their lives to helping others.

I work as an Armed Security Officer, and every day I am aware that the risks I face are real. Wearing a bulletproof vest is not only about personal safety. It is about making sure I can continue protecting others when a dangerous situation happens. A vest allows me to move freely and respond quickly, and that mobility is extremely important when every second matters. It helps me react without hesitation, which makes me more effective at keeping the people around me safe. The presence of body armor can also deter potential aggressors. Sometimes seeing it is enough to make someone think twice, and that helps maintain a safer environment for everyone.
I believe I should be considered for this vest because I am committed to public safety and I am working in environments where threats can appear without warning. The protection this armor offers would improve my ability to do my job well. It would keep me safe and help me maintain the confidence I need to respond quickly when danger appears. Receiving this vest would help me serve the community with the level of readiness they deserve.
To me, owning body armor represents a commitment to being prepared and staying resilient. It shows that I value safety not only for myself but also for the people who depend on me. It brings confidence, responsibility, and a stronger sense of security. Whether it is for my family, myself, or the members of the community who rely on me, body armor is an important investment for my safety. I have spent 26 years in Emergency Medical Services and 8 years as a volunteer auxiliary police officer. Throughout that time, serving others has always come first. Now, as an armed security officer, that dedication continues. This vest would help me keep fulfilling that responsibility.
JACOB THOMAS | Emergency Medical Technician
As a first responder in a medium-sized county, I have learned to accept that waiting for law enforcement support can sometimes take 20 to 30 minutes. That might not look like a long time on paper, but in the middle of a violent or unstable situation it can feel like forever. My partner and I often walk into unpredictable environments, homes where the person inside may be armed, heavily intoxicated, or experiencing a mental health crisis. Most of the time, we are not told about any of this before we arrive. We go in anyway because that is what the job requires. Having this protective vest would give me something I do not usually have in those moments, which is a fighting chance and peace of mind. It would give me a physical barrier that protects my vital organs, something that could determine whether I become a victim or make it back out so we can continue helping our community. This vest could be the difference between tragedy and going home to our families.
To be honest, I do not always know if I should be the one asking for something like this. What I do know is that I always put others before myself, even when it means sacrificing my own safety and well-being. Many people have told me I should be a leader or a trainer for new EMTs because of the compassion and patience I bring to each call. If I were chosen for this armor, Safe Life Defense could be confident that it is going to someone who genuinely appreciates it and who will use it to protect others on their worst days.
Owning body armor would mean I can enter higher-risk environments with a much better chance of keeping both my partner, my patients, and I safe. It means we can continue showing up and helping instead of becoming part of the emergency. I appreciate the chance to apply for the Guardian Angel Program and I am grateful for the work that Safe Life Defense does. No matter what the outcome is, I wish everyone there a safe, healthy, and fulfilling life. Always remember, it is not about the years in a life but the life in the years.
CHRISTIAN HERNANDEZ | Security Officer
As a Security Officer, body armor will allow me step into risky situations with the confidence needed to focus on the people who need help. Whether I am giving first aid, helping someone evacuate, or keeping a situation under control, knowing I have protection allows me to stay calm and steady. It also shows others that I am prepared and serious about keeping everyone safe. People often feel more at ease when they see someone who looks confident and ready, and body armor helps me provide that kind of presence while protecting my six.
My background as an Army National Guard infantryman gives me solid experience with wearing and operating with body armor. Although I am a security officer I plan to wear it regularly during training, so I understand its strengths, how to move with it, and what its limits are. I don’t know if I can say that I deserve winning this ballistic vest over any other applicant, but what I can say is that I have and continue to dedicated my life to protecting others. Receiving this vest would support the skills I already have and make me more effective when assisting others as a security officer.
Owning body armor would give me an additional layer of protection that helps me stay focused and calm in dangerous environments. It increases my readiness and confidence, which allows me to protect myself, my family, my coworkers, and the people around me. This is not only about feeling safer. It is about being able to step up when someone needs help the most. With both my military experience and my current work in security, I would be able to put this vest to meaningful use and keep serving the community with more confidence and effectiveness.
