SHANE CALLAHAN | Patrol Officer
I’m currently a Police Officer for my city in Oklahoma. I am very community oriented and I help with a lot of community events. To be completely honest the world is becoming more violent and I would feel more secure with body armor that can at least protect me from a common rifle round (ar15) and I would be able to focus more on the events and people.
We currently don’t have soft shell vests that can protect up to 9mm or offer stab protection and the police department makes it very clear that we have to buy our own for anything greater. I do a lot of investigative work in my city and go on a lot of search warrants. I believe with more protection from my body armor I could feel more confident in searches and utilize it for community safety and Officer safety.
Owning body armor means a lot to me. Knowing that when I’m on patrol I have a reliable piece of personal safety equipment that can reduce injuries or dying from stabs and or rifle rounds. Having the knowledge that I’m protected and that I can go home safely to my family means the world.
CHASE TEMPLETON | EMT
I will be able to help others while wearing Safe Life Defense body armor as I provide emergency medical care to my community as an EMT, as well as a volunteer EMT for my university’s QRS service. Specifically in the university setting we have a unique coverage area that extends beyond the confines of the university where we have large groups of individuals in large crowds late at night with minimal street lighting. This poses a unique risk for myself as sometimes a single provider on a QRS where I am seen first and PD has not yet arrived yet.
I should be selected as a recipient as I have a unique setting where I am a volunteer with a University EMS Agency. I also have no form of income while I am studying at the university to afford body armor. Another reason that I should be selected as a recipient is that a large portion of our patients at the university are intoxicated by some forms of substances and can be quite unpredictable in their actions. Recently a firefighter in a city not too far from us was assaulted and this got me thinking about how I am going to protect myself in the event that someone wants to harm me.
Owning body armor means to me that I will be able to protect myself while I am providing emergency medical care to the citizens of my community. Owning body armor also means to me that I will have a responsibility to educate my co-workers and my patients at times as to why I feel I need body armor. My department that I am employed at only supplies vests to full-time paid employees and this is not realistic for me to achieve as I am a full time college student and not able to work full time.
JOHNATHEN VIGIL | Corrections LT
I’m dedicated to helping people, my family, and everyone at my facility get home safe. This body armor is the body armor approved by my department but its optional to wear and staff have to buy it. Being able to have that piece of mind in situations is one less thing for me to worry about. I want to be the leader in getting staff the protection they need.
I’ve been a Corrections Officer for 7 years. I have worked as an Officer, Sergeant, and now Lieutenant. I’ve worked in high custody my whole career. I am now at the most dangerous facility in the state. In my time at this facility I’ve seen multiple violent attacks and we find weapons’ consistently. We don’t have to wear body armor nor is any provided unless you are outside the facility. So having armor that is not only bullet proof but stab proof would be the best tool to have on you. I do work both in and out of the facility on duty, but the armor given is worn and outdated. We work with the most dangerous and violent inmates in the state. I know I need this protection to ensure we are safe. I also am the protector of my house and my family. If I need to defend my house or family, having that nearby will always be a plus. Being a public servant you never know what you might run into in or out of the facility and your duties to preserve life is always helpful to have peace of mind.
Having body armor is one of the most important things that any LEO can have. Going home safe and protecting the public and fellow staff while being protected. That piece of mind while walking those tiers or dealing with a dangerous situation having something like safe life defense body armor have your back is definitely a game changer. Being a public servant I want to be prepared for anything. This would help my job and my security so much. Thank you.
