September 2024 Guardian Angel Winners

September marks the beginning of fall, a season of change. Leaves change color, the air gets cooler, and kids start thinking about costumes and Christmas (just like the stores!). We pull out our sweaters, jeans, and jackets for protection from the cold. This makes me think of how our vests give extra protection to our heroes on the job. It’s time to announce our Guardian Angel recipients for September and hope our gift helps keep them safe every day. Let’s congratulate the Guardian Angel winners!

The winners will each be awarded a FREE Concealable HG2 Multi-Threat Vest Level IIIA/HG2, offering protection against handguns, shotguns, strikes, and slashes all while ensuring comfort and ease of wear.

Join us in celebrating August’s Guardian Angel Winners – they truly deserve our applause!

ANASTASIA LANDMAN | Firefighter and EMT

Having body armor means saving time for my patient. Instead of waiting for police to clear the scene, body armor would allow me to gain access to my patient quickly. Time is of the essence for a patient suffering from a gunshot wound. Yes body armor won’t completely protect me, but it allows me to take a calculated risk. Taking calculated risks is the fundamental aspect of my job. And many of those risks start with wearing proper PPE. As of now, I have to wait for police to clear a scene before I can gain access to my patient. Those seconds and minutes could mean the difference between life and death for my patient.

Until 2 years ago, I would never have considered needing body armor. My small town is not prone to violence. Being a member of the volunteer fire department I respond to medical calls. Just over two years ago an off-duty police officer was shot and killed on Fountain St. I responded to that scene in our medical vehicle and assisted with the victim and the shooter who was also shot. Later that same year I purchased my first home on Fountain St just two houses down from that scene. There was still caution tape on my fence. I never forgot that shooting, but I thought it was a one-off incident. That was until this year. I was woken up earlier this year to a page going off. It was another shooting and it was also on my street. This one was down the street at a manufacturing facility. I went to both these calls on my street not wearing ballistic armor. Why? We never thought we needed it and now that we do we don’t have the funding. Any ballistic armor would provide me safety when I’m going to take care of my patient who can be my neighbor or a member of my community.

Security and Safety. I’m not one to take a risk without taking precautions. When I go to a house fire I wear all my turnout gear and constantly check them to make sure they are in working order. Taking care of a medical patient I always wear gloves to protect myself from exposure. For both those situations, I have the proper PPE and hours of training. For a shooting event, I know my role in the situation but I lack the PPE to reduce the risk to my life.

ERIC PEREZ | Security Director

So far I have managed to help countless people in my life including saving lives in the past who I’ve been blessed to come across. As an armed security officer I have rescued a child who was struck by a vehicle and performed CPR ( Anthem Country club HOA). I have De-escalated 2 active shooter events both leading to the arrest of individuals. I plan to do so much more in my career as a security officer and director. My personal goal will always be to keep others safe first then myself.

I believe Safe Life Defense is more than just a company. It is a way of life. To protect others and to protect ourselves from the evil and violence in the world. As a father and husband it is a way of life to be the best I can be at home and at work. I served 9 years in the Marine Corps and my service will continue beyond that in the civilian sector.

Owning body armor has always been a privilege and a means to protect and preserve life. In our daily lives where we are not able to know if we will make it to the end of the day. At least we know with body armor it will be a life saving tool in case of emergency situations. We must be responsible and respectful for the life we give and never to take.

MICHAEL SMITH | Peace Officer

I work for the Cleveland Division of Police in Cleveland Ohio. It will be safer to provide service to not only the community, but my fellow officers while being safeguarded by Safe Life Defense armor. Working for the Cleveland Division of Police in Cleveland Ohio. I have been with the department for the past five years serving the community and training new officers. I have always been looking for better armor to protect against higher caliber rounds that the department has been seeing more of everyday. I will wear the armor with confidence knowing I’m better protected during each shift.

Body armor means more PROTECTION! I’ve seen many different calibers of rounds on the street and not knowing what I may be up against, I want to feel like I have a fighting chance to protect myself and those around me. I want to thank you for taking the time to read this and consider me as a possible recipient.
